The warmth of winter melts away, and a new journey begins! On the morning of November 29, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 100,000-ton-per-year bio-based nano-silica project—fully funded by Anhui Jinhua Silicon Nanomaterials Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jiangsu Jinhua Silicon Green Technology Co., Ltd.—was solemnly held in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone in Jiangsu Province. Zhou Liang, member of the county government’s Party leadership group and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone, attended the ceremony. As a major scientific achievement resulting from ten years of dedicated research by the team led by Academician Zhang Liqun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, this project marks another significant milestone for the team’s presence in Yangkou Port. It will inject strong momentum into the green upgrading of industries in the Yangtze River Delta region and the cultivation of new-quality productivity, setting a benchmark practice for green development in the high-end new materials sector.
Zhang Liqun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, sent a special congratulatory letter. In his letter, he emphasized that the project’s core technology originated from the Advanced Elastomer Materials Research Center at Beijing University of Chemical Technology. The team broke through traditional process bottlenecks and pioneered a new circular economy model that uses agricultural wastes such as rice husks and carbon dioxide as raw materials. Through a key technological innovation—replacing sulfuric acid with carbon dioxide as a precipitant—the team achieved 100% conversion of raw materials, reducing the carbon footprint of each ton of product to -0.6 tons, thus truly realizing “negative-carbon production.” This breakthrough provides a replicable and scalable core pathway for the green transformation of the traditional materials industry. The industrialization of this achievement would not have been possible without the support of Beijing University of Chemical Technology’s “new model for transforming scientific and technological achievements,” which has enabled researchers to shift from being mere “researchers” to “partners,” setting a “win-win model” for deep integration among industry, academia, and research. This vividly embodies General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instruction: “Write your papers on the land of our motherland.” The implementation of this project will effectively accelerate the localization of high-end silica, reduce China’s reliance on imports in critical materials fields, and enhance the security and resilience of industrial and supply chains. It is an important manifestation of speeding up the development of new-quality productivity and achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength.
Zhang Jiong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee of Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone, delivered a speech at the ceremony. He stated that the successful implementation of the project represents a significant achievement in Yangkou Port’s deepening cultivation of its leading industries—“one primary, one superior, and one new”—and in accelerating the development of a new materials industry cluster. This milestone marks a more solid step forward for Yangkou Port in the high-end new materials sector. The development zone will continue to uphold the principle of “valuing business, being close to businesses, ensuring business security, and enriching businesses,” providing comprehensive, end-to-end, and round-the-clock services to support the project’s construction. This will ensure that the project promptly completes all necessary approval and filing procedures, enabling early commencement, early completion, and early realization of benefits. It is reported that various departments within the Yangkou Port park have taken the initiative to provide proactive and forward-looking services, overcoming challenges such as land approval and planning permits through practical actions, thereby optimizing the business environment and providing strong support for the project’s successful implementation.
As the “family member” of enterprises, Wang Huaqi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Fuyang Economic and Technological Development Zone, attended the event and stated that they would take this collaboration as an opportunity to deepen industrial synergy between Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, building “bridges of hearts,” “direct channels,” and “platforms for win-win cooperation.” They will continue to uphold the principle of “not disturbing unless necessary, and responding promptly to every request,” fully supporting Fuyang enterprises in “going global” and driving cross-regional development to a new level. Zhu Baoning, General Manager of Beijing Beihua University Investment Co., Ltd., also reaffirmed at the event that the company would continue to fulfill its mission of serving the socio-economic development of society through its role as the sole window for the commercialization of university scientific and technological achievements, thereby promoting the deep integration of the innovation chain and the industrial chain and helping more scientific and technological breakthroughs move from “bookshelves” to “store shelves.”
Shen Jiafeng, General Manager of Jiangsu Evolution Silicon Green Technology Co., Ltd., presided over the launch ceremony, during which Chairman Shao Jin delivered a statement. He stated that the company will remain committed to its core belief: "Innovation as the blade, quality as the backbone, integrity as the lifeline, and responsibility as the soul." The 100,000-ton bio-based nano-silica project currently under construction represents both a solid step in strengthening the company’s value foundation and fulfilling its social responsibilities, as well as a powerful practice for driving the regional industry toward green and high-end development. The company will work closely with all relevant parties to make this project a model demonstration of green manufacturing in the Yangtze River Delta region and contribute to the high-quality development of the regional economy.

It is worth noting that this project is not being developed in isolation. Around the project site, the bio-based polyester project led by Academician Zhang Liqun’s team has already entered the stage of preparation for production. These two projects will create a “green new materials industrial cluster effect,” injecting stronger momentum into Yangkou Port’s development of its leading industries—“one dominant, one excellent, and one emerging.”
This launch ceremony has received extensive attention and support from governments at all levels, universities, research institutes, and partner organizations. Officials from the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone, as well as professors, experts from universities and research institutes, and representatives of business leaders, attended the event. In the future, the project—leveraging globally leading negative-carbon manufacturing technologies—will make even greater contributions to China’s efforts to achieve domestic production of high-end new materials and to the green, low-carbon transformation of its industrial structure, jointly painting a magnificent picture of green, high-quality development.
